i’ve started working with an executive coach this year to help me find a new adventure in my career, and one of the first ideas that hit the table was to buy an existing business. it actually never dawned on me to even check it out, i just always thought of myself as creating something new … but that can take a lot of time.
then today entrepreneur magazine posted this article on how the market of businesses for sell is starting to grow again (Business-for-Sale Market Ready to Expand), and how the businesses that have made it through the recession so far are showing a better bottom line than before. they aren’t saying these businesses are all making the same amount of sales as before, but that they are making more on each sale because of having to cut overhead. the recession may actually be making small businesses (that make it) operate better.
back to my coach, if you’ve lost your job or hate your job a good way to make the change without the steep loss of income could be to go buy a job and then work yourself out of it by hiring the right people to run it. first do your research, find a good match that has a strong background in your market and start evaluating your options!
