Emily, Great post, and I'm enjoying your site. I used to think I needed a degree to be an expert at something, but those days are long gone. And now I see so many others who believe they must be somehow ordained an expert before they can monetize their knowledge or skills.

Your post "Replacing your J-O-B Income" makes the transition seem so completely simple, which is great, because it is cut and dry. This is a lesson I need reminding of often, since I often tend to make things more complicated than they really are.

Cheers, and looking forward to your All Content Matters presentation!

Great to hear, this seems to be a pretty typical route for us. The silver lining is that we do learn some skills from each of those J-O-B's as well as a lot about ourselves!

Mike, becoming resourceful is your answer to this fantastic question. You are not a unique position, from all the people I have talked to over the years about this very subject it is clear that most of us start out with very little capital. In fact I was a single mother and was still able to make this lifestyle work. I took an inventory of my skills, as well as what I knew I could learn quickly that was needed in the world at that time. I immediately started networking, there is no better way to get started than by making relationships built on trust and honesty. You might enjoy this article I wrote on getting started and replacing your employee income: http://geneticallyunemployable.com/entrepreneurship/replacing-your-j-o-b-income/

Over the next few weeks I will be adding some resources to help you with this piece of the puzzle as well as adding in a podcast of others that have made the switch from employment.

Keep in touch Mike, I would love to hear how you progress.
